Today, me and my kids went to our optemetrist. I am so surpised that my daughter, Kelly, has worst vision problem. She is near sighted... Geee, the doctor said she will be wearing prescription eyeglasses for the rest of her life. I feel so bad and felt some negligence on my part as a parent. I don't know who's to blame. Is it my ignorance or my family doctor's fault for not informing me to send my child for an eye check up as early as possible?
How this thing skipped through my eyes? I never saw her watching very close to the TV screen to give me an idea that she have a vision problem. Oh, all my TV at home have big screen. The one I have on my living room is 52" and the other 2 are 37"... They will definitely see the show clearly.
They have bad grades until Grade four. I was actually wondering why? I thought they're just a slow learner but when I teach them at home, I know they are not because they can easily catch what I am teaching them. I used to be a teacher back home, so I can determine if a child is a slow learner or not. This should have given me the hint that there might be some vision problem? But instead I brought them to a hearing specialist thinking that they have some hearing problem and that they couldn't hear their teacher well. But everything is perfectly normal... Why didn't noticed that it was their vision?
I just thought of sending them to our optemetrist so I can use my optical insurance coverage for them, which they haven't used ever since. I never thought that there can be a problem. I should have brought them earlier!!! They never complain. I wasn't informed that from 4 to 8 years old, any vision problem can be corrected. They are now 10 years old and I feel bad that they have to wear prescription eyeglasses for the rest of their life.
